I am a huge fan of anything “Amy-Jill Levine.” She is a member of an Orthodox synagogue who earned a Ph.D. in New Testament and teaches both New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School. She is a prolific author and public speaker. I once heard her say, on an interview with Peter Enns on “The Bible for Normal People” podcast, that she speaks to churches about 50 times a year! Many of her presentations are recorded and posted on You Tube.
If you want to understand the New Testament in its Second Temple Jewish context, the more you read or listen to Dr. Levine, the more informed you will be. She is a determined advocate for Christian-Jewish dialogue that leads to understanding and acceptance in our global society. To remain ignorant of others’ faith, is to remain divided and results in suspicion and potential animosity.
I don’t think anyone can go wrong with reading or listening to anything AJ Levine does.
